| The creative logic and strategic path of newmodel research universities: from the perspective of regional innovation ecosystem theory#br# |

Abstract The creation and development of a newmodel research university has its own logical paradigm and characteristics. Based on the perspective of regional innovation ecosystem theory, this paper analyzes the cases of typical new research universities such as Southern University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. It is found that the newmodel research university is the product of the evolution of the regional innovation ecosystem, the pillar innovation subject that comes from the mature conditions such as the change of innovation environment, arising of regional highlevel development contradictions and the formation of auxiliary innovation subject, and in the selforganized interaction with the former through the "hidden champion" positioning, "specialized" funding and legal protection, "wild goose formation mode" international team building and "high sensitivity" mechanism to achieve leapfrog development. Based on this, the future newmodel research universities should stick to their own "new" characteristics, get rid of the "old" path dependence, and move towards a new situation of multisubject symbiosis and collaborative development.
