The internal logic of private universities′ development: reconstruction and transformation paths |

Abstract As an important part of China′s higher education system, private universities play an important role in higher education popularization process. But there are problems behind leapfrog development of private universities under the economic logic. Specifically, profit-seeking nature of running motivation leads to lack of long-term stability in development, utilitarian running concepts lead to short-sighted strategic planning, and single-source running funds affect running quality improvement.Private universities need to return to the education original intention to reconstruct the internal development logic, and to develop through stable school-running orientation, suitable strategic planning and concern for stakeholder interests. They should innovate educational development concepts and create stable internal environments, and improve the decision-making management system and plan the appropriate strategic layout. Besides, governments should innovate policies and create favorable external environments for classified development of private universities.
