Abstract:Compared with academic and researchoriented talents, applied talents lay more emphasis on the “direct correspondence” to economic and social development, pay more attention to social adaptation and consciousness of service, attach more importance to the construction of local economy and culture, the combination of learning and application, learning and doing as well as learning and creation. Among the many qualities of applied talents, humanity is the basic one, which plays an important role in fusion and internalization. General education is a kind of education which takes humanistic quality as its core, stresses students harmonious development of morality, sentiments and rationality and emphasizes acquisition and interconnection of comprehensive knowledge, cultivation of sound character and practical quality so as to make allround and responsible modern civilized people. In order to cultivate humanistic quality and promote allround development, it is necessary to form a broad view of modern general education. With this view, reforms and explorations can be made in every aspect of the production of applied talents including setting the talentproducing target, allocating educational resources, innovating educational management, “landing” of the talentproducing approaches and methods and creating an environment in favor of talent production.
