Abstract Under nitrogen and air atmospheres of thermo-gravity, the volatilization and oxidation characteristics of several fuel blends of diesel and nano-materials with Al2O3 particle average size of 20, 50 nm and CeO2 particle average size of 20 nm were investigated for adding concentration of 50, 100 and 150 mg?L-1. The impacts of nano-particle concentration, size and material on volatilization and oxidation process of nano-diesel were explored by control variable method. The results show that the volatilization process under nitrogen atmosphere is slowed down by nano-particles. Higher nano-particle concentration and bigger particle size can decrease the volatilization of nano-diesel. Under oxidation atmosphere, nano-particles can speed up the oxidation process. The diesel fuel oxidation is accelerated more obviously with higher nano-particle concentration and smaller size. Al2O3 particles with average size of 20 nm show more active effect on diesel oxidation than that of CeO2 particles with the same size because of the cataly-tic function.
