Abstract To investigate the co-combustion characteristics of marine algae biomass and terrestrial biomass, the combustion experiment was conducted using the mixture of enteromorpha and rice husk with mass ratio of 1 to 1. The combustion processes of enteromorpha, rice husk and the mixture were analyzed by TG-MS-FTIR. The gas products of H2O, NO, CO2, NO2 and SO2 were monitored online by mass spectrometer. The MS-FTIR technique was utilized for the synthetic analysis of gas products. The results show that the combustion can be broadly classified into three stages of moisture evaporation, release and combustion of volatile and char combustion. The emissions of noxious gases of NO, NO2 and SO2 can be significantly decreased by co-combustion. The MS-FTIR analysis of gas products shows that the complete combustion time of enteromorpha is longer than that of rice husk. The adding enteromorpha can make rice husk ignite and combust in advance.
