Abstract:To improve the adhesion and dispersion of nano-Al2O3 within phenolic resin and its dispersion, KH570 was used to modify nano-Al2O3. According to the analysis of transmission electron microscopy(TEM), nano-Al2O3 is uniformly dispersed in phenolic resin with optimal nano-Al2O3 content of 6 percent of phenolic resin. The effect of modified phenolic resin by blending nano-Al2O3 in friction materials was investigated with the nano-Al2O3 content of 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10%. The results show that the surface-modified nano-Al2O3 uniformly disperses in phenolic resin and can significantly improve the heat-resistance of resin with nano-Al2O3 of 6%. The heat-resistance of modified phenolic resin is increased by 41 ℃ with decreased weight loss. Friction materials modified by nano-Al2O3 have stable friction coefficient and low wear rate.
