Abstract:To improve the engine cooling performance and the fan efficiency, the effects of fan cowl on the performance of cooling module were investigated. CFD was used to simulate the cooling module of passenger car, and the influence of fan cowl on automotive cooling module performance was discussed. Several schemes of fan cowls with different transition section angles were analyzed. The results show that the fan cowl has certain guiding role to air when the car drives slowly, which makes the fan have good effect on pressure increasing to ensure adequate cooling air through the radiator even at relatively low driving speed. The fan can increase the resistance to cooling air when the car drives fast. With the increasing of transition section angle of fan cowl, energy loss and pressure are decreased to improve fan efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
