Development and applications of technological
evaluation criteria for redox flow batteries

Abstract:Different evaluation criteria may be suitable for different situations with respective emphases. However, how to apply these criteria correctly and effectively remains unclear, and few literature about this issue has been reported. The development of technological evaluation criteria for RFBs was reviewed, and the selecting method of evaluation criteria was clarified. The system energy efficiency was the primary criterion for RFBs, and power density or/and energy density were also important on the premise of maintaining high system energy efficiency for different types of RFBs. The recent applications of the evaluation criteria were illustrated, some exceptional conditions not suitable for the system energy efficiency criterion were also discussed.
