Abstract Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy and learning curve of minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty (THA) with supercapsalar percutaneously assisted total hip(SuperPATH) approach. Methods: A total of 102 patients with hip disease treated by SuperPATH approach, the surgery situation, postoperative complications, acetabular abduction and anteversion, postoperative 24 h visual analogue scale(VAS) score and Harris hip joint function score on day 7 were recorded. The learning curve of operation was explored and the above indexes were comparatively analyzed. Results: All patients were followed up for 6-25 months.Operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and hospital stay tended to be stable after the completion of 36 cases of SuperPATH-THA. The 102 cases were divided into the learning period (36 hips) and the stable period (66 hips). In the stable period, the operative time, intraoperative blood loss, the first time to the ground, hospital stay were significantly reduced compared with those in the learning period (all P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the length of the incision, acetabular abduction and anteversion, postoperative 24 h VAS score and Harris score after surgery between the two periods (all P>0.05). One case of prosthetic dislocation and 1 case of periacetabular fracture in the learning period. Conclusion: SuperPATH approach minimally invasive THA is consistent with the concept of minimally invasive and rapid rehabilitation, has the advantages of shorter hospital stay, and lower complication rate; the learning curve of SuperPATHTHA was about 36 cases;after passing the learning curve, the residents could provide better early postoperative outcomes for patients.
