Abstract Between 1909 and 2009, the Environment and Natural Resources Division experienced a glorious hundred years. As time went by, it changed from the original Public Lands Division to its present name, the change of which reflects its glory. The hundred years development can be divided into four periods: the creation, the open access to and taking back of public lands, the dawn of the environment era, and the division and birth of modern environmental law. The leaders at different stages all made their due contribution to the division. Of course, the Division in the new millennium is also facing new opportunities and challenges, which it and its staff are well equipped to meet.
