Abstract There is a gap in the present researches of Pearl S. Buck and her novels due to lack of studies of the history of the Christian missionaries thoughts in China. The missionaries views of religious folk custom was formed in the historical context of two kinds of cultural conflict, the Christian culture and the Chinese Confucian and Buddhist culture, in the hundreds of years since the Late Ming Dynasty. The formulation of Mrs. Bucks religious folk custom views were attributed to the history of the missionaries thoughts and their families and manifested in her reflections on missionary work and her criticism of Chinese novels.
