Abstract:The knowledge of the current situation of public cognition of smalland mediumsized enterprise safety has direct effects on increasing the SME safety input, guiding public cognition of SME safety and enhancing public willingness to participate in safety decisionmaking. Our investigation of public cognition of SME safety in Jiangsu Province shows that the situation is not optimistic and the public cognition of SME safety is affected by personal academic background, working experience, media influence and government influence. Thus, we must rely on effective measures, such as mass media supervision, various forms of publicity and educational activities and governmental supervision to build scientific public safety cognition, and enhance public awareness so that we can provide a good social environment for SME safe production.
