Abstract:The rich writings about the Jin Dynasty by the Northern and Southern Song people covered politics, military affairs, economics, culture and so on. They could be divided into three types: those by the Song diplomats, those by defectors from the Jin Dynasty and those by the Southern Song literati on the Jin and Song relationship, including the people, events and systems. Their ideology and historical value were reflected in two aspects: the Jin society approached from a different angle and the heavy historical entanglements loaded with emotions. These writings revealed the Jin social life under the Jurchen rule and the tragedies caused by the separation between the north and the south. As the Jin writings were mostly lost, they were irreplaceable as literature because of their true description of the then northern life.
