Abstract： The present day farmers assertion of rights features instrumental rationality. Although such actions may play a role in certain cases, the oppressive logic implied in them may affect social harmony and thus give rise to no universal rules for solving problems, and be impossible to get out of the selfdenial dilemma of instrumental rationality. Communicative rationality is beyond instrumental rationality, and can be the foundation of the rationalization of farmers assertion of rights.
