Abstract:The Song poet Su Shi’s use of analogy was perfect. In his poetry, he adopted such typical imagery of analogy as “the trace of wild geese’ claws in the snowcovered dirt ”, “the beauty near the West Lake”, “the scattered grey hair”, and resorted to various methods of analogy, like analogie between man and man, between object and object, between man and object, between object and man. So by means of simile, metaphor, metonymy, euphemistic analogy, the analogy with several imageries, Su Shi was able to create an artistic effect with plain style, philosophic theory and deep meditation in his poetry. His writing style with unparalleled use of analogy not only enriches the rhetorical skills in literary history, but also carves out for the Song poetry a new way that is different from the Tang poetry.
