Abstract：The development of generative grammar can be divided into two stages: the period of rulebased system and that of principlebased system. In the first period, the studies of interrogatives in Chinese syntax from the perspective of generative grammar concentrates on applying the early methods of TG grammar to the analysis of Chinese interrogatives. The second period witnesses the syntactical contrast between English and Chinese special interrogatives, the indepth studies of Chinese general interrogatives and recent contrastive studies of English and Chinese interrogatives.
