Abstract Objective To explore the correlation between left atrial diameter(LAD) and changes of cardiac function in patients with atrial fibrillation(AF) complicated by cardiac dysfunction after ablation. Methods We selected 52 AF patients complicating cardiac dysfunction as ablation group, who had been admitted in our hospital for cryoablation and were followed up by echocardiography examination in our hospital one year later; another 52 AF patients complicated by cardiac insufficiency with medication simultaneously were regarded as the medication group. The following indexes were compared, including the change of cardiac ejection fraction(EF) one year after treatment between the two groups, the change of EF in the highand lowLAD subgroups of the ablation group, and the correlation coefficient between the change of EF and preoperative LAD in ablation group. Results The change of EF(%) in the ablation group was significantly higher than that in the medication group[(8.87±3.50) vs. (3.28±1.22), P<0.01]. In the ablation group, the postoperative change of EF(%) in the low LAD subgroup was significantly higher than that in the high LAD subgroup[(10.84±2.93) vs. (6.88±3.46), P<0.01]. The correlation between the change of EF(%) and preoperative LAD in the ablation group was r=-0.73(P<0.01). Conclusion LAD is negatively correlated with the improvement of cardiac function EF after ablation. The greater the LAD of a patient before the ablation, the smaller the postoperative benefit of cardiac function will be.
