New progress in the prevention of sudden cardiac death |
Abstract More than 540 000 people die of sudden cardiac death(SCD) every year in China, which promotes screening, preventing and treating individuals at high risk of SCD.
SCD is related to basic cardiovascular diseases. It has been verified by years of research that inspection methods such as cardiac ultrasound and brain natriuretic peptide testing help to screen out highrisky population of SCD while gene detection can be applied in screening out highrisky ones from the firstdegree relatives of SCD patients. Comprehensive consensus has been achieved that the incidence of SCD and allcause mortality could be reduced by adopting a variety of drugs on the patients with heart failure. In addition, intensive research has been carried out on the relevant indications of primary and secondary prevention for implanting implantable cardioverterdefibrillator on highrisky population of SCD. New armamentarium like wearable cardioverter defibrillator is also beginning to be used clinically.
