Clinical curative effect evaluation of the radiofrequency catheter ablation on supraventricular tachycardia in children |

Abstract Objective To assess efficacy and safety of radiofrequency catheter ablation for su-praventricular tachycardia in pediatric patients. Methods A retrospective study was made in a total of 39 pediatric patients, who underwent radiofrequency catheter ablation for supraventricular tachy-cardia in our institute. Results Structural heart disease was excluded in all of the patients, inclu-ding 21 boys and 18 girls,with mean age 11.0±3.5 years(range 4.7 to 18.4 years). Electro-physiologic studies revealed atrioventricular reentry,atrioventricular nodal reentry and ectopic atrial tachycardia in 25,11 and 3 patients,accounting for 64.1%,28.2% and 7.7%,respectively. Among 25 patients with atrioventricular reentry tachycardia,12 patients had Wolff-Parkinson-White accessory pathway and the other 13 patients had concealed pathway. The involving pathways located in left free-wall,right free-wall and right septum were identified in 9,8 and 8 patients respectively. Ablation success was achieved in 37 patients(94.9%) and recurrence occurred in 2 patients (5.1%). No complication was found. Conclusions Our primary experience indicated radiofrequency catheter ablation is a safe and effective therapy for children with supraventricular tachycardia.
