Prevention of sudden death in patients with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy: Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator or catheter ablation?
Abstract:Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a kind of genetic cardiomyopathy in which the normal myocardium is replaced by fat and (or) fibrous tissue. The lesion is mainly confined to the right ventricle, and can also involve the left ventricle, with clinical manifestations of heart failure, ventricular tachycardia and sudden death. At present, treatments of ARVC mainly include exercise restrictions, application of antiarrhythmic drugs, implantation of implantable cardioverterdefibrillator(ICD) and catheter ablation. This review mainly summarizes the latest research development of ICD and catheter ablation in the treatment of ARVC and prevention of sudden death in ARVC patients.
