The teaching excellence framework in UK:its context, results and responses |

Abstract The first results of the governmentlevel Teaching Excellence Framework (FEF) for assessment of the quality of undergraduate teaching in the UK universities and other higher education providers were promulgated in June 2017. The TEF rates universities as Gold, Silver or Bronze, in order of quality of teaching, and is to be linked with tuition fees in the near future. The move has caused great repercussions and controversies in the British higher education community.This paper reviews the background of the British university distinguished teaching evaluation, evaluation content and methods, analyzes the main results of the assessment, especially focuses on the impact, response and future trend of the evaluation policy after the publication of the evaluation results in the UK.Combined with the experience of college teaching evaluation This paper reviews the secondround undergraduate teaching evaluation in China. It also puts forward the policy suggestions from the aspects of the focus of the evaluation service object, the support of the normalized statistical data, the comprehensive disclosure of the assessment information and the diversification of the evaluation results.
