Abstract:The rise of collaborative innovation concept is closely related to the globalization of economy and the development of knowledge society. The concept has been widely used in business organizations and is gradually spreading to other institutions, particularly higher education. Based on the theory of synergetics, it evolved from the concept of innovation and lays more emphasis on breaking the barriers between subjects, human resources, capital, information and technology cooperation. To date, great achievements have been made in applying the concept of collaborative innovation in western higher education. As there are commonalities in construction of platforms, design of organizational structure, establishment of operation mechanism, and provision of financial resources, other countries can draw on the experience of western countries. In the processes of promoting collaborative innovation in China, we need to learn from the advanced experience of foreign countries and try to overcome the psychological constraints and the institutional barriers by making use of our already made collaborative innovation so as to provide appropriate policy support and continue to improve collaborative innovation.
