Abstract:The present study is based on a questionnaire survey of the students in colleges and universities in Nanjing and analyzes their response to the three amounts of tuition rise, the group distribution and the factors affecting their response. Results show that if the tuition rises by 30%, dropouts will amount to 9.6%, the majority of whom will be the students from lowincome families, and the students in the third level of colleges and higher vocational colleges. Further logistic regression analysis demonstrates that the quality of education has become the important factor affecting students willingness to attend college and should be the top factor to consider in setting tuitions. Accordingly, the current policy choice should keep the tuition not soaring and selectively raise some colleges tuitions while improving their educational quality. Otherwise, there will be strong opposition against tuition rise from students and their families.
