Abstract To investigate the effects of valve timing on the dynamic and economic performance of Wankel rotor airpowered engine with distribution phase, the dynamic numerical model was established and verified. The movement process of the flow in Wankel rotor airpowered engine was simulated. Based on the orthogonal design, the various combinations of intake advance angle, intake duration angle, exhaust advance angle and exhaust duration angle were analyzed. The results show that the greatest impact factor is intake duration angle with following of exhaust advance angle and intake advance angle, and exhaust duration angle is the least important factor on the dynamic performance of Wankel rotor airpowered engine. The optimal valve timing is acquired under the conditions with those angles of 270°, 15°, 30°and 280°, respectively. The greatest impact factor is exhaust advance angle with following of intake duration angle and exhaust duration angle, and intake advance angle is the least important factor on the economic performance. The optimal valve timing is acquired under the conditions with those angles of 15°, 210°, 260° and 45°, respectively.
