Abstract To investigate the influence of structural parameters of the baffle in semivolute suction chamber on the performance of doublesuction pump, a doublesuction centrifugal pump for transporting oil was numerically simulated to analyze the flow field with AnsysCFX software. The baffle thickness of S of the semivolute suction chamber, the length of L in horizontal direction and the included angle of θ between exit and horizontal direction were selected as experimental factors. Two levels were selected for every experimental factor to establish orthogonal test scheme of L4(23). The computation models of doublesuction pump were modified according to the scheme tab. The numerical simulation of test models was carried out under four operating points of 0.6QN,0.8QN,1.0QN and 1.2QN to obtain the optimum assembly of baffle structural parameters. The suction chamber was modified based on the optimum baffle size to compare the optimized pump with the original pump. The results show that the main structural parameter of baffle thickness is the key influence factor on the influent performance of doublesuction pump, and the efficiency of optimized pump is nearly increased by 2% than that of original pump.
