Abstract With the weakening of the nobles, Emperor Xiaowu was once able to administer the court and the royal power was enhanced. The emperor and his brother Sima Daozi had good command of the military and administrative power. Although there was internal struggle between the emperor and his brother Sima Daozi and his nephew Sima Yuanxian, they agreed with each other in a policy of suppressing the nobles. They used the Wangs from Taiyuan, their relatives, to suppress the Xie clan from Chen Prefecture, who helped win the Battle of Fei River, showing the contradictions and conflicts between the royal family and the nobles.
