Abstract The scholars under the reign of Emperor Qianlong and Emperor Jiaqing served as a link between the past and the future, and thus played a very important role in Chinese academic history. They often had calligraphic exchanges with each other in their spare time. Their complicated relations with each other centering on calligraphy reveal a very colorful life of theirs.
