Abstract:As a secluded poet in the early Tang Dynasty, Wang Ji pursued the quality of life rather than the intangible Taoist gods when he abused drugs, most of which were the restorative herbal medicines. Therefore, he abused drugs not to become a god himself. His secluded life (including drug abusing) cultivated his love for nature, sharpened his appreciation of nature and leisurely life, and thus helped formulate his natural, unsophisticated, quiet and elegant poetic style.
