Abstract: Gender difference is an important issue in science of science and sociology of science and has been highly concerned and studied by all sectors of the society. However, most of the studies focus on that in scitech sector while ignore that in the humanities and social sciences. So, this paper studied the gender structure and disciplinary differences of scholars and the gender preference of academic cooperation objects in the humanities and social sciences in China based on a statistical sample of more than 2.95 million scholars involved in more than 1.9 million core journal papers published in the humanities and social sciences in China from 1999 to 2020. The results show that in the humanities and social sciences in China, male scholars are still at the core and play a leading role in academic cooperation. Female scholars are less likely than men to participate in academic cooperation. In the internal structure of academic cooperative team, there are obvious gender homogeneity. Thus, it is necessary to further explore the influencing factors and mechanism behind the phenomenon, so as to provide effective support for the accurate formulation of scientific research policies.
