Abstract Irisin is a hormonelike polypeptide secreted by the muscle tissue, which is generated after hydrolysis of fibronectin type Ⅲ domaincontaining protein 5 by proteolytic enzymes, and released into the peripheral circulation. Irisin plays a potentially protective role in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This article summarizes the present research progress of the protective effects of irisin in AMI mainly from the following aspects: reducing oxidative stress response, improving mitochondrial function, inhibiting myocardial apoptosis, inhibiting inflammatory response, improving microcirculation, in order to provide valuable references for the diagnosis and treatment of AMI.
