Abstract Cavitation,silt abrasion and their synergism cause severe damage to fluid machinery.The mechanism of cavitation,silt abrasion and their synergism can be studied by experiments and numerical simulation,which are the basis for optimizing the fluid machinery design and enhancing the life-span under those conditions.The factors which affect the behavior of cavitation,silt abrasion and their synergism include flow velocity,pressure,and the characteristics of sand and materials.Recently the research of this field focuses on the mechanism of damage in different conditions,interaction between different factors and high performance materials,etc.All these are briefly summarized in this review.
