Calculation method of braking torque for eddy current brake based on virtual coil assumptions |

Abstract To solve the problem of existing torque calculation method of eddy current brake with empirical coefficients to hinder accurate calculation of braking torque and product upgrade, based on the original assumptions of disc, the closed vortex ring within eddy current effect region was equalled to a virtual coil with valid eddy current value and turn number of one. With the consideration of eddy current demagnetization effects, BiotSavart law was used to derive gap magnetic induction of eddy current brake, and the energy conservation law was used to calculate braking torque of eddy current brake. The eddy current retarder was used to verify the formula. The results show that the experimental curve is in good agreement with theoretical calculations. The proposed calculation method of braking torque can reflect the impact of eddy current demagnetization effects on braking torque.
