Main flow features analysis on impeller of super flat automotive torque converter |

Abstract Automotive torque converter was designed with a flat profile for the purpose of achieving a smaller axial size and weight saving. Strict convergence criteria that conformed with physical principle was employed to simulate steady internal flow of a new super flat torque converter. The main flow features of impeller were obtained through velocity and pressure fields analysis. According to structure characteristics of torque converter and hydrodynamics knowledge, the reasons that caused flow defection of torque converter were studied. The features and developing trend of jet-wake flow and secondary circulation were analyzed by velocity and pressure field in meridional planes. Main flow features analysis results of internal flow field can be used to design and optimize the structure.
