Abstract Based on high-speed video technology, the performance testing system was established for forceps holder type precision dibbler in cotton sowing. By extracting the posture and trajectory of the seed from the motion image, the motion rule of seed-clearing process and its influence factors were proved by theoretical analysis and experiment. The results showed that the key factors influencing the sowing index were forward speed, size and shape of seed clearing plate. The best performance of seed-metering could be obtained when the forward speed of the dibbler was 3.0 km/h and the seed clearing plate was at shape Ⅱ and a length of 245 mm. The qualified rate began to decline evidently as the forward speed exceeded 4 km/h.
