Abstract To suppress the commutation torque ripple, a BLDCM (brushless DC motor) control scheme with double current regulators was proposed. Phase commutation of BLDCM was analysed. This scheme was aimed to keep the non-commutation phase current constant by making the change rates of the upco-ming phase current and the outgoing phase current eqeal. The main current regulator based on sliding mode variable structure was used to control the upcoming current, according to deviation of the non-commutation phase current. The fuzzy control was adopted in the assistant regulator to adjust the duty of the outgoing phase real time, according to the back electromotive force. Simulation was carried out using Matlab software based on dual closed-loop control. Results show that the commutation torque ripple is effectively reduced, either in the the highspeed or lowspeed commutation region.
