Abstract To inquiry the bearing capacity and deformation of stainless steel water tank which was buried in the ground, the static compressive load test of water tank molded plates was conducted. The support structure forms were redesigned to reduce the deflection of molded plate, and the rationality and the feasibility of proposed new forms were verified by compressive test. Based on ANSYS, a finite element model was established, and the accuracy was verified by comparing with experimental results. The optimal size combination of stainless steel water tank molded plate and support rod was calculated by the size optimization module of ANSYS. The results show that under the lateral earth pressure in the design, the molded plate deflection is relatively large to easily lead to local bucking failure of water tank. The supporting form with main support rod and diagonal brace can significantly reduce the maximum deflection of molded plate, which can ensure the normal use of water tank with reduced building cost.
