Abstract To solve the reactive power, voltage fluctuation and other power quality problems generated by the nonlinear loads in coal mine power system, the mine explosionproof static var generator (SVG) was established based on 1 140 V, 400 kVar threelevel NPC technology, and the threelevel space vector modulation algorithm was proposed for the control system. A novel threelevel space vector modulation algorithm was deduced based on twolevel space vector modulation to simplify the calculations of the sector judgment of reference voltage vector and the duration of space vectors by twolevel SVPWM algorithm. The digital control system of threelevel SVG was achieved based on the structure of DSP and FPGA. The simulation test was completed on the newbuilt system. The experimental results show that the system has good capacitive and inductive reaction control characteristics with dynamic response time of 5~10 ms, which can meet the practical requirements.
