Abstract The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue in waste water was investigated by new composite magnetic photocatalyst of magnetic field coupled with photocatalytic reaction test system. The in-fluence factors of magnetic field strength, rotating speed, reaction time and dosage of photocatalyst on the rotating magnetic field coupled with photocatalytic degradation were investigated. The results show that rotating magnetic field can significantly enhance photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue. Under the reaction conditions with magnetic field strength of 50 mT, rotating speed of 70 r?min-1, photocatalyst dosage of 1.2 g?L-1 for 120 min and initial concentration of 10 mg?L-1, the methylene blue solution degradation rate reaches 93.02%. UV-vis spectra comparison of methylene blue solution before and after reaction indicates that azo bond and benzene ring disappear after rotating magnetic field coupled with photocatalytic reaction. The results show that most of methylene blue is effectively degraded.
