Abstract Solubilization effects of PBDEs from contaminated soil by two anionic surfactants (Tween 80 and Triton X100), two nonionic surfactants (SDS and SDBS) and their combinations were investigated. The solubilization enhancement of NaCl solution concentration on the surfactants to BDE15 was also studied. The results show that the dosages of single surfactants in excess of their critical micelle concentrations can dramatically enhance the solubilization effects of BDE15, and nonionic surfactants exhibite higher solubilization ability than that of anionic surfactants. Anionicnonionic mixed surfactants exhibite synergistic solubilization, and the solubilizing capacity is increased with the quantity of nonionic surfactant with the maximum value at the mass ratio of 7∶3 for nonionic to anionic surfactant. The solubilization abilities of mixed surfactants can be increased obviously by adding NaCl solution.
