Abstract The thoughts of divination exerted a significant influence on the creation of paintings in Han Dynasty. The aesthetic concepts of these paintings were usually displayed by means of auspicious schema for what was auspicious was then considered elegant. The auspicious ideas presented by the Han paintings in simple schematic drawings foretell the cultural pursuits of Chinese people. The schematization and symbolization of Han paintings are at the core of understanding their graphic concepts. The schematization is about abstracting the complicated world into visual signs that can be detected by senses of sight. The schema of Han paintings was arranged in terms of symbolic meaning of heaven, earth and human. A research on the auspicious schema of Han paintings can help further understand how to apply the cosmology reflected by Han paintings into practical schematic designs.
