Abstract Unlike most of Baudelaire's works which have a gloomy tone, l'invitation au voyage describes a lovely world and reveals the feelings of happiness. As a result, many readers want to know the poet's mental state when he was writing the poem. Armed with thematic criticism, through the deconstruction of the superficial system and the reconstruction of the deep system by rearranging the motifs of three aspects: visual, tactile and gustatory senses, we find that the poet neither changed his style nor changed his inner feelings during the creation of this work; instead, he was vacillating between ideal and reality.
