Abstract Only when human beings are ideologically independent from nature can they take nature as a cognitive object and improve their cognitive level, especially that level of natural science. Wang Chong is the first person in Chinese history who has established “Heaven and man are separated” view of nature. His thought that man is separated from nature, his attitude that knowledge is obtained by learning, and his new mysticistic metaphor are of vital importance in the development of scientific spirit in China. As a result, his role in history is unquestionable.
