Abstract From 1953 to 1956, the Communist Party of China reformed the rural mass culture in an allround way during the Agricultural Cooperative Movement. During this period, the traditional folk cultural form based on private economy quickly changed to the socialist mass cultural form based on collective economy. A large number of mass cultural organizations, including rural troupes, underwent substantial changes in funding, organization form, leadership and management, daily activity and so on, showing obvious socialist cultural characteristics. This reform shaped the basic model for the mass cultural construction in rural China during the Collectivization period, complied with the requirements of the times as a whole, and left many valuable historical experiences.
