1 An experimental study of silt abrasion on the surface of hydrofoil and flow measurement by PIV
CHEN Ci-chang, ZHANG Tao, CHEN Feng, YANG Chang-ming, ZHANG Liu-qiang
An experimental study of silt abrasion on aluminium hydrofoil was performed in a converging-diverging testing section. The microscopic appearance of damage by silt abrasion on the hydrofoil was observed by SEM,and the flow field was measured by PIV.According to the microscopic appearance observed, the abrasive wear patterns were classified into three modes: ploughing, wedge and cutting types. The reason for the different appearance of damage at different position of the hydrofoil was analyzed with the help of PIV.The result showed that the microscopic appearance on the hydrofoil surface depended on the characteristic of silt motion. The degree and distribution of damage were also depended on the macroscopic characteristics of the silt following the flow. The result of PIV without silt helps to analyze the wear patterns by silt. The study has positive meaning for reducing the silt abrasion on the wetting surface of fluid machinery.hydraulic machinery;hydrofoil;silt abrasion;microscopic appearance;PIV;abrasive mode

12 Calculation of singular boundary integrations by using MAPLE in the stress analysis of symmetrical structures
LU Miao, ZHU Rong-sheng
Stress analysis problems of symmetrical structures are widely encountered in industries. When the boundary element method is used on this kind of problem, singular integrations would exist. How to calculate them validly and accurately is a key point.Typically, the elliptical functions in the integrated functions are accumulated with corresponding log functions. Also, integration transformation methods have been used for the case. But the accuracies of these methods depend on the delimiting of the boundary elements, which makes the program difficult to be coded uniformly. To this end,a new method based on using of software MAPLE is presented. It expresses an integrated function as the sum of several terms, each term may be a polynomial or the product of a polynomial and an elliptic function by segmental interpolating methods. In this way MAPLE could calculate the concrete integration results. The codes for the new method could be programmed in an unified and brief form.pump;MAPLE;stress analysis;boundary element method;singular integration

In order to have the optimum hydraulic design for a bulb tubular pump system of Huaiyin No.3 pumping station in the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the numerical simulation for 3D flow pattern in the bulb tubular pump system is conducted. The mathematical models of the geometrical molded line of both bulb front-positioned and rear-positioned tubular pump system are built up according to the recommended structural configuration of the pump unit of the station at the stage of initial design.Numerical simulations of 3D turbulence flow in the two types of pump systems were respectively completed successfully, from which the internal and external hydraulic performances of the bulb tubular pump systems were found out.The main characteristics of flow patterns in the inlet and outlet of both bulb front-positioned and bulb rear-positioned tubular systems were discussed. The simulation results signify that it is realizable to apply numerical calculation to study 3D flow pattern and its hydraulic performance in a bulb tubular pump system. The energy characteristic of the bulb tubular pump system of the initial design of Huaiyin No.3 pumping station is not satisfied for the requirements of South-to-North Water Diversion Project. However,it is possible to obtain higher efficiency of the pump system by the way of further optimum calculation.bulb tubular pump;system;3D flow;numerical simulation

XIN Zhou, YANG Zhi-ru
The basket of the disc separator is a complex cone.According to the traditional algorithm of the strength, the results often have an enormous surplus, which affect the overall economic indicators of the separator. To solve this problem, based on the finite elements stress analysis,an optimized mathematical model for the disc separator basket is set up,which takes the total weight of the basket as target function, and some of its structure parameters as optimization parameters. The interior-point method of penalty function is used to solve the mathematical model, which is a multi-dimension constrained optimization problem. An algorithm flow chart is also given.Considering the strength and inflexibility of the basket, the optimization result of an actual basket indicates that the quality of the basket can be reduced by(24.2%.)So mechanical efficiency of the basket is increased and its life is prolonged.basket;drip irrigation;disc separator;optimum design;finite element method

LIU Yong-ping, GONG Jun, LIU Jing
When hydrocyclone is used to exclude the sediments in the Yellow River, the two indexes of particle size distribution and average particle size of the overfall are very effective in measuring the performance of the hydrocyclone.Firstly, the experimentation was made by changing structural and operating properties of a basic hydrocyclone on an simulative test apparatus excluding sediments from the Yellow River. Then, effects on the performance of the hydrocyclone were qualitatively summarized and evaluated through the analysis and evaluation on median particle. The results show that separation product’s median diameter decreases to about 65.6% distinctly when charge stock soliquold particle’s median diameter is 3.5 μm and input pressure is between 0.06 MPa and 0.07 MPa. Separation product’s median diameter alters non-distinctly when input pressure is above 0.07 MPa.Separation product’s median diameter decreases to about 68.4% when charge stock soliquold particle’s median diameter is 3.0 μm,input pressure is 0.05 MPa and underflow outlet diameter ascends from 14 μm to 16 μm.hydrocyclone;solid-liquid separation;particle size distribution;median diameter

46 Deciding the area of cable for starting submersible motor pump in condition of far distance between the transformer and motor
ZHANG Xian-liang, LING Gui-rong
In condition of far distance between the transformer and submersible motor pump,it needs a long cable to connect the both, which causes a large voltage drop and thus leads to unsuccessful submersible motor start.By analyzing the start torque, start current, and start voltage,we derived formulas to calculate the needed minimum area of cable and to calculate the maximum length of cable at certain area of cable for normally starting the motor. The example is given out to illustrate that the needed minimum area of cable is in proportion with rated current IN,the length of cable L,and inverse proportion rated voltage UN.These formulations can also be applied when connecting general motor with centrifugal pump.submersible motor;submersible motor pump;line voltage reduce;start torque;start voltage;needed minimum area of cable

LUO Ti-qian, WANG Jun-feng, MAO Hui-min, WEN Jian-long, WANG Xiao-ying
Along with the development of the electrostatic atomization, the research of the charged multiphase turbulent flow is expanding. It is difficult to find a model strategy to simulate it,as the charged multiphase turbulent flow is rather complex.Based on the theoretical principle of making multiphase turbulence model, the "double fluid" model and the concept of the "body average" are applied, which consider not only the interaction between phases but also the inter-particle-phase dispersion and sliding action. The mathematics model of the charged multiphase turbulent flow was set up.Regarding charged particle phase as a fluid phase,we applied the method of establishing normal pseudo-fluid multi-phase governing equations to deduce charged particle pseudo-fluid multi-phase governing equations, which(provide) the basis for modeling charged particle pseudo-fluid multi-phase turbulent flow.multi-phase turbulence flow;charged;pseudo-fluid;electrostatic atomization;body average

CEN Qi-gang, WANG Zhen-tao, WEN Jian-long
In spray cooling for metal cutting, the liquid is directly atomized. With evaporation of the droplets the heat is taken away and the temperature of the cutting area is cooled. The key factor of the spraying is the droplet size. The smaller the droplet and the bigger its surface area, the evaporation happens more easily. The experimental study on an air atomizing spray by PDA is presented, and the spray characteristics such as droplet diameter and velocity are obtained.Experiment showed that the nozzle aperture and the air pressure have great influence on the spray characteristics. The optimum condition of the spray was investigated.spray characteristics;droplet diameter;droplet velocity;PDA

Introducing electrostatic effect is a new approach for the development of wet flue gas desulfurization technology. And the electrostatic spraying characteristics of lime slurry is the key of lime slurry electrostatic spraying desulfurization technology. With the application of 3D particle dynamic analyzer(3D-PDA),lime slurry electrostatic spraying test set was established to describe the distributing characteristics of velocity and particle size for the first time. The different charging voltages and lime slurry flow variables were measured. With the coherent data manipulation method, detailed measurement for a lime slurry electrostatic spraying nozzle has been completed in conjunction with velocity and particle size characteristics. The results indicate that the introducing of electrostatic effect can enhance lime slurry spraying quality and improve the distributing uniformity of lime slurry droplet velocity and particle size. The effect is obvious when charging voltage is 5 kV to 10 kV.lime slurry droplet;charging;PDA;average velocity of axes;average velocity of radial;average particle size
