1 CONSIDERATION OF 21ST CENTURYS WATER CONSERVANCY AND IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE IN CHINA
Jin Shude, Yuan Jianping
The paper presents a brief history of water conservancy and irrigation and drainage in China, then consider over the 21st century’s water conservancy and irrigation and drainage. From the fact of water shortage worldwidely, it was brought forward that the work of water conservancy and irrigation and drainage should be based on person, water resource, environment and market.

9 ADVANCES IN HYDRAULIC DESIGN OF LOW SPECIFIC SPEED CENTRIFUGAL PUMPS
Li Yi, Yuan Shouqi
The main hydraulic problem for low specific speed centrifugal pumps namely lower efficiency, drooping head-flow curve and easily overloading brake horsepower are introduced and the fundamental requirements for modern hydraulic design are discussed. The recently developed hydraulic design methods for low specific speed centrifugal pumps including the greater flow design, non-overload theory, splitter-blade method, area ratio principle and optimum design are reviewed. The advantageous and disadvantageous for these methods are discussed and compared. It can be concluded that as long as selecting the proper design method and with his own experience, the designer can develop the satisfactory low specific speed centrifugal to meet the user’s specific hydraulic requirements. The trends for further development are also prospected here.

14 RESEARCH INTO SOME CYLINDRICAL BLADES
Yan Jing, Liu Mingdong
The authors of this paper presented the drawing program for some cylindrical blades employed in low specific speed impeller, and also formulas for their wrapping angle and function of the settlling angle against the wraping angle theoretically. The results will be helpful for understanding and improving this kind of blade.

18 APPLICATION OF DISCRETE NUMERICAL TECHNOLOGY IN THE DESIGNING OF CENTRIFUGAL PUMP
Xie Jun, Liu Jun
Two methods of designing wheel axial projection draw of centrifugal pump based on discrete numerical technology are dealt with. One is the traditional way that axial projection draw is decided by front and rear flow shape, the other axial projection draw is depended on rear and mid flow shape. Because of discrete numerical technology, the math process to drive the trace of internal-tangent circle between front and rear flow shapes is avoided. The software of design and optimum for centrifugal pump are designed with Visual Basic program language.

22 FUZZY DECISION OF PUMP SELECTIONS IN LARGE PUMP STATIONS
Chu Xun
A method with multi factors fuzzy optimum principle is applied to the selection model of pump stations. The pump mechanism selection is related to the model, structure, cavitaiton, efficiency, cost, power, pipeline and water flow cut off device on outlet etc. The paper has made an analysis and calculation with fuzzy theory. It has solved for the best scheme of the selection with fuzzy theory decision. The method is faster in calculatiny velocity with more comprehensive and reasonable economic targets than the traditional trade off study method.
