In this work,the population balance model(PBM)was used by employing FLUENT and the model feasibility in fine bubble aeration was validated. Then, the gas-liquid flow in an oxidation ditch with fine bubbles was studied in Fluent. The results show that the velocity based on PBM model agrees better with the experimental data than the velocity based on the traditional model, i.e. the average error of the former is less than the latter. Thus, the new method coupled with PBM model can reduce the error caused by simplified aeration models.ª¤
