Abstract The new pump blade with large discharge, high efficiency, good cavitation performance isdesigned for the renovation project of headstream of South-North Water Discharge Project-JiangduNo. 1 and 2 pumping stations. Numerically-controlled milling processing of pump blade is applied. It can ensure the performance of the prototype pump. Based on the analysis of system characteristic curve, the paper bring out the new concept of the unstable mode region and discuss the reliability of the stable mode region.
