Abstract Based on the wear process of O-ring in relief valve, the life prediction of an overflow valve under different working conditions was carried out by means of life test and ANSYS simulation. Firstly, the life test of the relief valve was carried out, and the life information of the relief valve in the standard environment was obtained through the life test. Then the ANSYS simulation of the O-ring wear process was conducted, and the simulation model was established to simulate the stress state and material properties of the O-ring in the standard environment. The equivalent radius of O-ring failure was obtained when the contact pressure of O-ring is less than the working pressure. The equi-valent radius can be regarded as the same point as the life information obtained from the test. The wear rate of the element was calculated by the Archard wear model. According to the material constant of O-ring under different temperatures, the failure radius under this working condition was measured in ANSYS simulation model, and the life information under this working condition was calculated. The life response surface of relief valve under different working conditions was established by using the life information is obtained from multiple simulation under different working pressure and temperature. This method can be applied to the field of life prediction of relief valve under different working conditions, which provides a reference for the life prediction of hydraulic components under different working conditions.
