Numerical prediction of 4-quadrant characteristics curves of RCP |

Abstract In order to predict the 4-quadrant characteristics curves and evaluate the design scheme quickly and reliably in the process of RCP development. The 4-quadrant characteristics curves of a shaft seal RCP at constant speed are predicted by using the numerical simulation method of the complete flow passage, and the reliability of the 4-quadrant characteristics curves based on the numerical simulation is studied. Compared with the test curves, the results shown that the predicted results are in well agreement with the test results under the condition of reverse flow, and the deviation is within ±3% for most points and the maximum is within ±5% for some points. Under the condition of pump speed reversed and positive flow, the change trend of the predicted results is the same as that of experimental curves, however, the deviation between the predicted value and the experimental curve is large, and the deviation of head and torque curve is within ±10% in most region and the maximum are up to ±20% for some points. These results demonstrated that the test data in most region can be replaced with numerical results for obtaining 4-quadrant characteristic curves. This method can be used to quickly evaluate the design scheme in the design process, and also, it should further study how to more accurately simulated the flow field under the condition of pump speed reversed and positive flow. However, the accurate computational prediction method of the RCP in reverse and positive flow condition needs further study.
