Abstract The modulation mechanism of unsteady water jet is discussed in theory, especially the processes ofl iquid-to-beada nd thec ollision betweenj ets andt arget-objectsa fterm odulation area nalyzedi nd etail.A ll kinds of external interruption methods and internal modulation methods about forming unsteady water jet are simply summarized, The advantages and disadvantages of these methods are also presented. According to the comparisono f thesem ethods,t hes elf-excitedo scillationw aterj eta ndi mpactingw aterj ett hroughm odulation of chaos are points out to be promoting.
